The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

The Book Thief

Story of the Germans, story of a Jew

Story of life and death

And books, of course, too.

Though take place in Germany of WW II, thought holocaust is woven through all its pages, its talk of it only by hint. It talks of life and love, of growing and lesson. The story of this time, those hard and dark days are a great background to emphasize the “whiteness” of the human spirit.

Beautifully written, strikingly touching.

“The journey continued like everything had happen”

Out of the thousands who are known, or who want to be known as poets, maybe one or two are genuine and the rest are fakes, hanging around the sacred precincts trying to look like the real thing. Needless to say I am one of the fakes, and this is my story. (Leonard Cohen, The Book of Longing)
